Project Based Learning
Project Based Learning (PBL) is an instructional model through which students explore real-world experiences and challenges, discovering and applying integrated concepts in core subjects.
Students in project-based classrooms engage in:
- making real world connections
- discovering and applying integrated core concepts
- collaborating with peers and experts
- inquiry and creativity
- relevant assessments measuring growth and understanding
Research has shown well-implemented, standards based PBL increases students’ retention and engagement while developing the whole child for success in higher education, career and civic life.
Alta Vista students connect with the real world through their projects, interacting not only with each other but also with experts and volunteers, developing a sense that they can make a difference in their world.
Alta Vista’s teaching team has trained in project based learning under the Buck Institute for Education. For more information on project based learning, visit http://www.bie.org/.
